[movies]Metroid - Time Attack by Jeff C. (aka Arc) - Jeff 'Arc' C.
[NB - this video was transferred from the Machinima collection, and uses different rules to the other speeds runs in this collection, including use of emulators and multiple save states.] Another example of the pre-history of machinima - players bragging about their impressive performances to other players. This roughly 17-minute run through the NES's Metroid demonstrates the fastest path through the game. Please note: These speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options a...

[movies]Super Mario World - Xbox emulated run in 0:10:47 - Andrew McKinlay - Andrew McKinlay
Speed run of Super Mario World done on xsnes9x Super Nintendo emulator for Xbox, does not count as official record for SMW. Author's comments: This run was extremely lucky in two areas, 1. That i didn't die by that stupid stump thing in the first castle. 2. That i didn't choke on that lame water level like i always do. [movies]God of War (PS2) Speed Run (2:50)
Speed Run of Playstation 2's "God of War" By: Prism Completed October 1, 2005 17 segments You'll see me do two things many, many times throughout the run: roll-cancel and saw. Roll-canceling is when you roll, then do an action (like hit square), but then roll again before it gets started. Doing this lets Kratos travel across the ground much faster than walking. A varation of this is roll->R2 (dash)->(repeat); this has the added benefit of letting you steer Kratos during the dash move...

Disney game not made by Capcom. Interesting :) In this game, just like in Mega Man, sliding is faster than running. Or, as Nifboy put it: "Well, here's an improvement to the Sliding Hell, also known as Quackshot." This video is more than a minute and a half faster than the previous Quack Shot video. The improvements consists both of more sliding in different places and a slightly better route in the Tiger Castle, as well as the discovery of some neat bugs...

[movies]Super Turrican (NES) - 10:22 (Europe version, emulated run) - Justin Kvithyll (aka. Zerstorung)
* Played using Famtasia * No warps or passwords used. * Played on Difficulty Level 2 (the default, of 4) * Basic Speed Run. * Damage is taken to save time, no deaths * Manipulates Luck The only difference between difficulty settings is the amount of damage enemies, including bosses, take. I felt the boss fights took unnecessarily long as is, so I felt the default difficult would be sufficient (as well as the fact that the previous submission used the same setting) I am not sure if this is a glit...

[movies]Umihara Kawase (SNES) - 13:15 (Japan version, emulated run) - Eric Stratmann (aka. Bob Whoops)
This game is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish. This video plays the longest path of the game having only two bosses. The boss levels are quite long in this movie - they can't really be sped up, but the author of the movie has done his best to make it worth watching. No frogs were harmed in the making of this movie.

[movies]Cobra Triangle (NES) - 17:55 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This game is something as unusual as a boat game where you race to the finish, rescue swimmers from being abducted, dispose of bombs, kill big-ass sea monsters and shoot targets. This movie aims for fastest time but makes some deviances from that goal to get more points: for example it saves all the swimmers where just saving one would have been slightly faster.

[movies]Wizards n Warriors (NES) - 10:53 (US version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This is an improved version - 72 seconds faster than previously. Most of the improvement comes from heavy abuse of luck to get blue and pink potions when they are most useful. In this game you're an armor-clad knight with a big sword. You collect gems to bribe a red knight, kill evil beasts and rescue several "distressed damsels". Walker Boh completes the game shorter than anyone imagined, and discovered a few nice tricks / glitches...

[movies]Rygar (NES) - 07:52 (Europe version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
For more details, see http://tasvideos.org/201M.html This movie completes the PAL Rygar with only one item: the grappling hook. And what an awesome movie it is: it demonstrates as many glitches of the game as possible. Some of the glitches save time radically, some save a little of time, and some don't save time at all but just look cool. It uses death as a shortcut, but in contrary to the usual, this death does not put Rygar backwards in the game, but instead warps him forward by a couple of le...

This is a decent port of the game (unlike the terrible NES version...) * Jumped straight through most guards. This saves a lot of time. * Skipped getting the sword on the first level. * Avoided fighting the skeleton on Level 3 by luring it to the left and jumping over it. * Took some fall damage during levels 8-10 because it saved time or was unavoidable.

explanations -FCE Ultra emulation -No warps, passwords, or glitches -No damage or deaths -100% kills-ish -In making a speed run of Jaws, it was necessary to kill the enemies fast, as if you don't kill an enemy quickly, he'll simply swim off the screen and reappear from the other side a level up. Here's my Rad Gravity run. I must give thanks to Spoony Bard. Without his first version, I would never have been motivated enough to make this run. My general route is basically the same, but with lots of optimizations in each level. I discovered that the disk that allows you to fly isn't actually neccesary. However, it does allow for a nice shortcut. I only need to use it once, so I only get two energy tanks (it costs two full energy tanks to use it)...

[movies]Rygar (NES) - 21:07 (Europe version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This timeattack is different from the other Rygar timeattack in that it plays all levels and doesn't use the boss-warp glitch. Unlike the previous versions of the full (ie. deathless) run, this one makes full use of all the bugs and glitches in the game which can be used to speed up the run. Note: Famtasia plays PAL games at NTSC speed, that is 16.7% too fast. Thus the AVI is significantly faster than the movie should actually be.
